  The Beginning of TheStateofHipHop.com

About me: Just a quick rundown about me… My name is Carlos and I guess you can say I’m an east coast head with a love for that west coast sound, though I'm beginning to feel like both those styles are going by the wayside while new ones are emerging.

I dig the underground but consider the difference between it and the mainstream to be popularity rather than talent (who is more talented can be argued both ways; I don’t believe either).

I was born in Lima, Peru and I’ve lived in Florida, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, traveled to 10 countries, attended 10 schools and just recently graduated from college with a bachelor’s degree in Communication from the University of Connecticut (R.I.P. Jasper Howard)

I have spent years reading up on, listening to, observing, analyzing, and living hip-hop on the quest to break it down into parts that can be easily examined…

Before that: In the mid 90’s I would get online and text battle, recorded audio and just kept learning basics. I examined Canibus' and Eminem's early freestyles thoroughly. In college and through lots of outside reading Over the years I gained loads of knowledge and constantly searched for connections between my classroom material (all subjects) and rap.

I’ve developed relationships with DJ’s, producers, lawyers, rappers, club owners…I even worked in the promotions department at perhaps the biggest hip-hop radio station in Connecticut, learned the ins and outs of all the departments, and then one day I was satisfied (and in a way dissapointed) enough to move onto something different…

I get a lot from sharing everything I’ve learned and continue to learn throughout the years with other young people and future superstars…and that’s why…

Going into 2010 The State of Hip Hop remains the net's #1 resource for MC improvement.

As an organization we expect to help guide the next batch of great rappers the game has yet to see...and we always welcome suggestions!

So please enjoy the interviews, news, book recommendations, emcee improvement articles as well as other resources including e-books, and more being released over time...so stay on the look out!

Also, please be sure to check out our declaration/disclaimer page if you would like a clearer picture of the site's goals (for fans and haters alike).
