Declaration/Disclaimer:(Last updated: May 20, 2007)
It has come to my attention that some people might be misunderstanding the purpose of this site. The State of Hip Hop is committed to providing relevant information for those interested in hip hop and emceeing. It is not a place with all the answers nor is it a one stop miracle ticket to fame. We do believe, however, that knowledge of the music industry and technical advice does improve an emcees chances of success drastically if well incorporated into a plan of action. This applies whether your definition of success is improved ability, financial gain, fame, or all of the above.
When reading our headlines keep in mind that we try to use language that captures both the main idea of the topic being discussed while also encorporating the group of words most likely to be used in a search for this topic (so you can find us). Those familiar with how this site started will know all too well what I mean. I have made some adjustments and updated the About Us section but I'd still like to make a declaration as well as a disclaimer on what this site is and isn't about.
What The State of Hip Hop is not about:
- Making overnight celebrities
- Providing a magic formula for success
- Providing a one-size fits all solution to mastering rap
- Being the sole source of your knowledge on the game (by no means)
- Turning an art form into a science
- Providing pointers to increase an aspiring emcee's chance at notoriety
- Providing an essential knowledge-base for success
- Providing basic principles of music and various aspects of style that emcees can use to develop their own skill and persona
- Getting new emcees to consider what information we provide, but ultimately to think for themselves and to not limit their imaginations
- Breaking down the aspects of the hip hop industry that are technical (ie. the financial side, promotions, basic rhyme formulation tactics, etc.)
Let me not end this entry without saying this; I know that most of our visitors already understand what this site is about. We get emails showing a lot of support and thanks for the free helpful content. Let it be known that The State of Hip Hop does not make a profit. Everything the site makes through clicking of ads goes directly towards maintaining the site.
Anything we may feature for sale in the future will only be more well gathered helpful information put together in an easy to absorb package that each individual can interpret in their own way (basic principles to help develop your own music style, music industry guidance, financial guidance, etc). Keep in mind that a lot of the information on here is from first hand knowledge on the subject and a lot of supporting material comes from interviews with professionals, books and more (all which we credit).
Finally, thanks to all our visitors from here in the states and around the world, this hip hop shit is global! I love you all for real and thank you again for continuing to help us grow.
