Thug Angel: Life of an Outlaw
The title says it all: Tupac Shakur was as much angel as outlaw. Unlike some of the other profiles made in the wake of his passing, Thug Angel doesn't focus only on the first few days of his career or the last few days before his death, but on his entire life. That makes it valuable as much for the fan as for the merely curious. The production was backed by friends and associates and includes never-before-seen material. It's surprisingly evenhanded, juxtaposing footage of Tupac at 17, for example--sounding mature beyond his years--with an interview conducted years later on a shooting range. Passion was still in full effect, but idealism had been replaced by paranoia. Peter Spirer's film is a documentary, not a music video, and contains only snippets of Tupac's work. At its best, Thug Angel makes a compelling case for his continued relevance as an artist and activist.

Tupac VSCheck this DVD out when you yourself getting deeper into Tupac Shakur. There is a lot of rare footage of Pac being interviewed in while in jail and as many Pac fans know, a good number of his jewels are found in interviews not songs. The narration is assisted in part by the great thinker Michael Eric Dyson who's vocabulary may at times go over the heads of younger viewers, but is nonetheless one of the few public intellectual figures able to concentrate Tupac's profound purpose and ambition into straightforward statements of pure genius. A must view for all Tupac fans.

The Original 50 Cent: The True Story of The Legend Who Inspired The Biggest Name In RapTwo men, One name, Two fates: Death for one, glory for the other. The true story behind the legend who inspired one of the biggest name in rap. At the height of New York's crack epidemic, one man terrorized the city's most notorious gangsters. Armed with a bulletproof vest and an arsenal of weapons, he robbed and killed many of Broolyn's biggest hustlers. A cold-blooded crook, he was the hood's version of Billy the Kid, vowing that -one day- he would "get rich or die trying". Most knew him simply as 50 Cent or Fifty. This is his story.

EAmong the videos on this DVD are Stan, The Way I Am, The Real Slim Shady, Role Model, Guilty Conscience, My Name Is, and Just Don't Give A ..." There is some behind the scene's footage and a mockumentary included but mostly this collection covers videos from early in Eminem's mainstream career. I'm mostly just recommending this because I still feel that (during the years this DVD covers) Eminem had a chance at making a totally different and more valuable mark on hip hop. This might still be worth checking out for some hardcore fans as it does contain the video for Guilty Conscience which is impressively unique.

Hip Hop Story 2: Dirty South
Focusing on artists such as Lil' Jon, Bow Wow, and Chingy, HIP HOP STORY 2: DIRTY SOUTH explores the distinct characteristics of hip hop coming from southern cities like Atlanta, Houston, and Miami. With narration by Smoot, this presentation is a treasure trove for hip hop fans of southern style rap, featuring plenty of crunk beats, beautiful women, and crazy style that can only come from the Dirty South! Caution: You may burn out some braincells trying to find any knowledge in this video. Don't take it too seriously. At face value it does provide an interesting look at what's "cool" to many involved with hip hop today.

Pass The Mic!The suppressed voices from Latin hip-hop culture are finally heard in this compelling voyage to the underground roots where it all began! Two generations of Latino hip-hoppers reveal their struggles, successes, and the secrets of their art, flinging open a controversial window with a no-holds-barred approach that will shock the music industry. Respected by their peers, ignored by the media, these are the key figures who have revolutionized hip-hop culture, filled with gripping stories told through riveting interviews, exclusive backstage footage, and rap music. The video is a little underpolished and could have used a little better editing if you're looking for something to hate about it. Definitely worth a viewing.

Outlawz WorldwideIf Tupac was the general, the Outlawz are his loyal soldiers spreading the teachings of Thugology to a nation of hungry fans. Napoleon, Young Noble, Edi, and Kastro take their thug struggle around the world from the U.S. to Germany to Puerto Rico. On their way they discuss the lives of fallen prophets Tupac and Kadafi. Also, the Outlawz answer the question everyone wants to know. "Is Pac dead or alive?" Hear about their days on Death Row and life as independent artists. On Worldwide, the Outlawz leave no rock unturned as they incite international crowds, entertain groupies, and discuss their weapons of choice. See the exclusive first interview of Fatal Hussein since his release from prison. This DVD also includes many cameos from well known hip hop artists.
