Eminem

Eminem (born Marshall Mathers) is the first white rapper to be commercial successful while also gaining massive underground acceptance.

Much of his success is due to his uncanny ability to rhyme what isn't supposed to rhyme, rhyme an enormous amount of syllables back to back, and switch up his flow with the greatest of ease. Simply put, Eminem has mic skills.

Eminem made a name for himself in the underground by appearing in and surprising fans by sweeping through the competition in a number of freestyle battle competitions. His peak freestyle battle credits would come in a second place finish at The Rap Olympics in 1997 where he would lose to as of yet unsigned rapper, "Rhymefest".

Discovered by Dr. Dre after hearing him on the radio in the mid-1990's, it wasn't long before he took the world by storm.

Since dropping his critically acclaimed (though also criticized) mainstream debut in The Slim Shady LP Eminem has done nothing but shoot upwards. Eminem is now perhaps the biggest commercial rap act still in the game.

In time, however, Eminem has been criticized for being too pop, and dissing pop acts who have no fair chance of retaliating. Benzino, of The Source Magazine has also uncovered tape of Eminem when he was 16 rhyming blatant racist lyrics. Somehow, through all of this Eminem has come out relatively unscathed.

There are those who love and those who hate Eminem, but no one can dispute his immense talent at constructing a rhyme. Eminem continues to rap and produce, though after his first full-fleged production effort in Loyal To The Game by 2pac, many fans of both 2pac and Eminem have been left dissapointed As of early 2007 Eminem continues to make his presence felt in the gam albeit to a much lesser extent, mostly dropping a verse here and there in the promotion of someone's record.
