I First heard these guys open for R&B artist Ne-yo in New London, CT in 2006. Flowers and Kain are not a rap group but a band with a pretty good dose of hip hop coming through their MC Bryan Flowers aka Bobby Flow. Since hip-hop is evolving in all sorts of directions it is indeed a breath of fresh air to have a group push it in a truly artistic direction as opposed to guiding it towards substanceless superficial pop.

To be fair, Flowers and Kain should not solely be labeled "evolved hip-hop", but instead of describing it myself, I will borrow from their SonicBids page as it is as good an introduction as any.

FLOWERS AND KAIN is the breath of fresh air the music world needs! Our sound is fresh, and hard hitting!We pride oursleves on "Keepin it Hot", with no two songs that sound alike! HIP HOP, ROCK, REGGAE, R&B, SOUL, and a touch of the BLUES, all wrapped into one band, with one killer sound.

Flowers and Kain have been best friends since they were 6yrs old. The two best friends always traded two things; music & culture . The two started writing music together at age ten, when Bryan played trumpet in the school band and Ryan first started to take guitar lessons. The two continued to play all through high school until college, when they were separated between two cities (Boston/Hartford). During this time, Ryan began playing for an instrumental funk band Proud Baby Mudfoot (myspace.com/pbm), while Bryan was taking trips from Hartford back to New London to hone his rapping and singing skills in the Jon Doe studio, with Smoke the Absolute, New London's premier beat engineer (myspace.com/Smoketheabsolute). Upon reuniting in August of '05, their love for Rock, Hip Hop, Classic Rock, R&B, Funk, Blues, Reggae, and Soul prompted them to form a brand of music they were sure they could take on the road. Teamed with them, is one of the best Drum and Bass combinations in Connecticut. Ed Briones (bass guitar), and Ian Kelly (drums), both rocked New London with the sounds of Mah Ray(myspace.com/mahray) for the latter part of the last decade, and also grew up together in countless bands in, and miles away from, the New London area.
