Jadakiss

Jason Jerome Phillips (born May 27, 1975), better known by his rap name Jadakiss, is a New York based rapper. He is part of the crew known as D-Block (consisting of Jadakiss, Styles P, Sheek Louch & J-Hood) and was a part of The LOX previous to that which included the aforementioned rappers minus J-Hood

Jadakiss became a freestyler early in life and engaged in competitions by the time he was twelve. He and some of his early friends were given the opportunity to compete in the Jack the Rapper Competition in Florida, where Jadakiss was noticed for his battle rap ability. He met Dee and Wah of the Ruff Ryders, then a management company, and began hanging out and battling outside of the Ruff Ryders' studio where artists like DMX made their first hits

Initially "The Warlocks", as they were called, were closer with members of the Ruff Ryder camp than with Bad Boy though they jumped at the opportunity to join the likes of Biggie Smalls on a label that was at the time blowing up. Puff Daddy would soon change their group name to Tha L.O.X. (meant to stand for Living Off Experience). It would not be long after Biggie's death before Jadakiss and the rest of Tha LOX left Bad Boy to join the Ruff Ryders.

Jadakiss attracted some controversy and condemnation from well-known right-wing commentator Bill O'Reilly. O'Reilly labeled him a "smear merchant" due to the song "Why?", specifically lyrics stating Jada's belief that George W. Bush coordinated the September 11, 2001 attacks: "Why do niggas push pounds and powder? Why did Bush knock down the Towers?" O'Reilly took the position that the President should be allowed to sue Jadakiss for slander. The track was eventually banned on some radio stations or played, with the lyrics in question censored. In 2005, Immortal Technique and DJ Green Lantern's song "Bin Laden" sampled the line referring to Bush.

In 2004, Jadakiss, along with Fat Joe, was featured in Ja Rule's "New York" anthem. In the song, Ja Rule took subliminal but obvious shots at 50 Cent. 50 Cent made a song called "Piggy Bank" in which he disses Fat Joe and Jadakiss for rapping on the song. In response, Jadakiss released the now infamous diss songs "Checkmate" and "Ms. Jackson" the latter being a recording over Outkast's "Ms. Jackson" instrumental, in which Jadakiss refers to 50 as a female. 50 Cent responded on "I Run NY", where he calls Jadakiss a disgruntled employee. He also pokes fun at the fact that Jadakiss still does not own his publishing rights and purports that Jadakiss does not own his own jewlery.

Jadakiss has a distinctive, raspy voice that he exhibits with a trademark cough-laugh "Ahaah!" sound at the beginning of many of his verses recently.
