Rap Lyrics Archive
Accurate Rap LyricsThe majority of rap lyrics you'll find online are submitted by visitors, rarely checked for accuracy, and then stolen and copied a thousand times by every other site...NOT HERE.
I know how annoying it is to find a site horribly screwing up your favorite rapper's lyrics...and it happens often.
Here at The State, since we post our own lyrics (though we also accept submissions), you can email me directly about any dispute with the hip hop lyrics featured on the site. Though I review liner notes, research official websites, and listen attentively I am only human. Sometimes in the course of large uploads the quality of some lyrics may be overlooked. I ask that you please report any innacuracies that you may find to me here so that I may quickly fix them.
Finally, since TSOHH is all about helping up-and-coming emcees to progress, this section will regularly showcase classic rap lyrics, successful rap lyrics, freestyle rap lyrics, battle rap lyrics and both popular & underground rap lyrics, with a breakdown of what makes them so appealing.
The State's rap lyrics page will by no means feature every song imaginable from every artist out...we STRICTLY emphasize quality over quantity and our doors are open to recommendations 24/7. The rappers and musicians I have chosen to showcase I consider to be standout artists either lyrically, musically, or commercially and each posess a talent that aspiring emcees can learn from.
Again, if you're a nitpicker about accurate rap lyrics like me, and have some favorites you want to see up, please write to us here and I'll be sure to get them up for you.
With that said, we present to you our latest offering...
   Brother Ali - Mr. President
|
| Brother Ali "Mr. President" |
Let me start by saying that I have little doubt that Brother Ali is one of the top 5 best rappers alive, and I'm glad more and more people are finding out about him.
I first heard this song shortly after Barack Obama won the presidency. It was really dope a few months back, but I believe it was slept on due to the overexposure of other presidental homages such as Jay-Z's "My President is Black".
Bottom line, the song is still hot and I wanted to give it the showcase it deserves.
Rhymesayers is currently allowing free downloads of the track.

[Brother Ali]
Faheem come in here man
Come in here I want you to see this on TV
Baby he won, he won man
Barack Obama won, he's the President
I mean we still have a lot of work to do brother but I wan't you to remember how you feel right now man
Remember that you were alive for this man this is really big my dude
Haha he won!
[Brother Ali]
Stand on your feet the new black commander in chief
You see the voice of the people cant be defeated
We got together and demanded what we needed
The masters of suffering gotta have some relief
No more relaxing in that passenger seat, this is
Our country and our chance to redeem it
I got to pinch myself I cant believe it
We made history happen and you seen it
We werent supposed to put that man in that seat
Were supposed to be divided by scare tactics and greed
Like the most a black kid could ever be
Is rappers and athletes or selling crack on the streets
But nows the time to rise and shine
We all unite behind Americas brightest mind
Im getting goosebumps writing this rhyme
Almost feels like we got it right this time
Come on!
{Chorus - Marvin Gaye Sample}
They're talking, talking to the people
Trying, to get them to go your way
Telling us not to worry
Except we won't be led astray
I've got the vote for you
I've got the vote for you
You're the man
[Brother Ali]
I seen white folks confronting their neighbors
About that old racist McCain shit
Out in front of where they live
The first time in my generation
This nation has had this real race conversation
And then I saw Obamas fundraising
Groundbreaking, and found out where it came from
Not corporations but real folks donating
Im mean I seen thugs reading newspapers!
People in the street who been ignored for so long
That they never saw reason at all to get involved
Start stepping forth, became a heavy force
And made their voice change the presidential course
They never used to give a fuck
Now they know they got a visit us
At least they know they gotta listen up
Tell them old heads the jig is up
You will never get elected again without us
Come on!
{Chorus}
[Brother Ali]
Of course I know that
The real war for being free isnt over
Every leader need a team of true soldiers
And once man cant change the world from his office
In order to do that we gotta all get on our shit
We gotta raise our kids
Take the revolution we started
Pick up where we left off and dont quit
Dont care what the cost is
Combine forces with your sisters and brothers
And pool your resources
Of course its great Baracks in
But now we all got to win
Lets have a campaign to change us from within
Rely on each other we aint gotta trust them
Our hearts been broken by the country within
But today I got my hand on my heart
I might go and plant a flag in my yard
Man fuck it!
Two years of saying Yes We Can
And today Barack Obamas the man
You gotta love it!
{Chorus}
