What makes TSOHH's rap lyrics page stand out from the crowd is simple. When I give you hip hop lyrics, I go out of my way to ensure that they are absolutely accurate. This is especially useful for people trying to understand and appreciate what makes a GOOD rapper.

The majority of rap lyrics you'll find online are submitted by visitors, rarely checked for accuracy, and then stolen and copied a thousand times by every other site...NOT HERE.

I know how annoying it is to find a site horribly screwing up your favorite rapper's lyrics...and it happens often.

Here at The State, since we post our own lyrics (though we also accept submissions), you can email me directly about any dispute with the hip hop lyrics featured on the site. Though I review liner notes, research official websites, and listen attentively I am only human. Sometimes in the course of large uploads the quality of some lyrics may be overlooked. I ask that you please report any innacuracies that you may find to me here so that I may quickly fix them.

Finally, since TSOHH is all about helping up-and-coming emcees to progress, this section will regularly showcase classic rap lyrics, successful rap lyrics, freestyle rap lyrics, battle rap lyrics and both popular & underground rap lyrics, with a breakdown of what makes them so appealing.

The State's rap lyrics page will by no means feature every song imaginable from every artist out...we STRICTLY emphasize quality over quantity and our doors are open to recommendations 24/7. The rappers and musicians I have chosen to showcase I consider to be standout artists either lyrically, musically, or commercially and each posess a talent that aspiring emcees can learn from.

Before anyone starts saying, "The Black Eyed Peas ain't hip-hop", let me stop you.

I owned my first BEP, record accidentally about 10 years ago when I bought the Bullworth Soundtrack. At the time I had already heard of them and they were not very popular at all and were actually getting the same flack they do today...and they didn't even have Fergie.

Fast forward a few years and they had that joint with Macy Gray with the freaky video which started to get me thinking that they were hip-hop...just with an abstact pop lean.

Fast forward again to "Where's the love?" and The Black Eyed Peas (including Fergilicious) were an established pop phenomenon. Nowadays I'm far removed from my judgemental days of classifying "hip-hop" and "non-hip-hop" acts. That's mostly due to the fact that Hip-Hop has taken on a life of it's own and can no longer be guided by any particular set of beliefs (whether we like it or not).

With that said, Fergie is more eye-candy than MC, but The Black Eyed Peas still do one thing well...they make people move. And as old-heads used to say, "MC" also stands for "move the crowd".
